The Garba is danced during Navaratri, a Hindu festival of worship and dance.

The dance -- originally done only by women -- is traditionally in honor of the Goddess Amba. It is a joyous religious and familial event where the dancers form a circle around an image of the goddess. They dance around the center in a circle, clapping in rhythm.

And now you know more about this ceremony than I did when I showed up.

Cultural and language barriers were challenging as was trying to capture the energy and spirit of the people in spite of the existing lighting and ambiance of the hall itself.

I really enjoy learning about other cultures so this was an event I was eager to attend and to learn as I went along. It was a pleasure and privilege to document it.
