O Christmas Tree...

We went and bagged ourselves a Christmas tree this weekend! We drove all over Illinois for this baby. Finally we found a great tree farm that featured our favorite kind of tree--a blue spruce--at a reasonable price. It was a pretty basic kind of place. I wore fake antlers.

Dale did the the big unveiling...(and we had to cut a foot off the bottom, as usual).

Flint got #3 in the unsafest cities in America! Congrats Ol' hometown!

Scotland Revisited

Just one year ago we were wrapping up or Scotland visit! In honor of the occasion, I thought I'd post this picture Dale took last summer. The Chicago Tribune building features stones and rocks gathered from some of the most important and memorable structures on earth--including Edinburgh Castle. It's a little piece of Scotland right here in Chicago!

Mom's memorial service was on Sunday afternoon and I just want to thank everyone who came to the service, called, or wrote to express their condolences.

Whenever I feel bad about my mom's death, I will think about all the family and friends that came to support us, share their grief with us, and most importantly, to share their good memories of my mom. I will take comfort in that for a very long time.

It was truly overwhelming to know how many people cared about my mom and our family.

Mom's Memorial Service Information

Some folks have asked so I thought I should give an update to all about the memorial service:

My mom's memorial service will be in Flint, Michigan, on Sunday.

There will be a visitation from 3-4 p.m. at Plumb-Smith Funeral Home, followed by a short memorial service. My mom was cremated. I will have a photo album and some pictures there so people can remember has when she was healthy and happy.

Sad news...

Sorry I haven't updated sooner but my mom passed away on Saturday morning. It happened very peacefully at the hospital. I spent the day with her on Friday and that meant a lot to me.

Mom was cremated this morning and my stepdad, Gary, is bring her cremains to Michigan tonight. There will be a memorial service on Sunday afternoon. I'll update this post when I have more specific information.

Rebecca's Mom...

My mom is being transitioned from hospital care to hospice care today. She may or may not make it home as she is very sick. Her body has stopped responding to dialysis and is shutting down. Dale and I are in Memphis to see my mom and offer some support to my stepdad, Gary.

I wanted to post the above picture to remind us all of happier times.

I truly appreciate the love and support of family and friends and I look forward to touching base with all of you once we have seen my mom off with dignity and love.
