Dale’s Traditional Rod & Kulture Photo Shoot

09 Jul

Exciting news! And it’s on news stands! Dale shot “Tangerine Scream” (it’s the car pictured above) for Rod & Kulture Magazine (it’s the magazine pictured above). All together? That’s a photo that Dale shot on the cover of a magazine with international distribution. We’re pretty excited about it. And it’s in stores now so if you want a copy please get it now before it’s gone. We’ve seen it at both Borders and Barnes and Noble.

We were really geeked to see it in store so I snapped a picture of it with my iPhone. I was so excited for Dale I about peed myself.

For more of the photos he took you can check out his website by clicking here. There are some awesome shots. We don’t have the spreads from the actual magazine up there but the article–which is mostly photos taken by Dale!–is five pages long. Pretty incredible coverage! Congrats, Dale!

You can check out the magazine’s website–featuring Dale’s cover art at Traditional Rod & Kulture. The car, Tangerine Scream, was created by Hot Rod Chassis and Cycle in Addison, Illinois.

Sneak Peak

21 Feb

For a sneak peak at Dale’s recent photo shoot check out the company’s blog. They took a few behind-the-scenes shots.

I’m not sure what I can share but odds are good that the photos Dale took will end up in a national hot rod magazine. We’ll keep you posted.

In the mean time, we’re school, work, school, work, smidge of facebook, and a whole lot of school book. More soon!

Anniversary Weekend Pt. 2

02 Nov
While we were in Northern Wisconsin (with a brief detour to Minnesota) last month for our anniversary Dale took a great many gorgeous postcard shots so I grabbed up my favorites and put them together in this post! Above is Lake Superior.

We both love old signs painted on brick buildings–doesn’t everyone? This one is in Two Harbors, Minnesota! This trip marked another big milestone–my first trip to Minnesota. Two thumbs way up! I loved it.
We took a few long drives–one to Minnesota to circle around Lake Superior–and came upon Amnicon Falls State Park in Wisconsin. It was very beautiful–and cold!

I especially liked the little covered bridge that goes over the falls. We also saw Cooper Falls State Park, and that had a lovely trail wrapping around some very pretty waterfalls. Dale hasn’t given me all his pictures yet so maybe I’ll post those later.
I love little buildings all alone set off next to a country road. And this one is particularly cute.
Finally, driving through the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest we looked behind us to see quite the winding country road.

I also tried my hand at some postcard shots. This one was taken on some country road in Wisconsin–probably in the national forest.

Same with this one…
This is my favorite! I love this tiny post office and its proud declaration of being Northernmost!

And here’s my version of this crazy long country road we drove on. Sure it seems artsy but really I was just too cold to get out of the car.

Images from Dale's Commute

26 Jun
Dale took a few photos of his commute last week and wanted to share them. He takes the green line everyday from Oak Park into the Loop.

A street level view look toward the Loop.

Dale also walks across this bridge everyday.

And he takes the same route home.

My commute is similar but I don’t have to walk across the bridge since I work right in the loop. I only have to walk about a 1/4 of a block to get from the train to my building.

Herrick Lake

21 Jun
Dale and I have gone to Lake Herrick a couple of times this spring–on the rare sunny day.

Dale took a few photos that he liked enough to share.

On one of our walks we noticed a couple of caterpillars crossing the road–and we helped them across on our fingers and dropped them off on some leaves.

The path we took where we met the caterpillars.

It was a very pretty day (minus the mosquitoes).

It’s a lovely forest preserve.

A knotty tree.

Vintage/Antique Jewelry Show

12 Mar
My friend Anne invited me to go to an antique clothing and jewelry show–I’ll post a pic of the insanely ridiculous purse I bought later–out in her suburb of Elgin. It was neat for me but poor Dale came along and discovered it was all girly things!
So he took a few photos to amuse himself and I figured we’d share since we’ve been so boring during this last couple of long and cold months.

Sassy mannequin selling her wares!

Lots of sassy clothes.

And accessories!

Vintage hat mannequins–love them!

Dale liked this one a lot.

And this dude is my favorite!

The purse I bought is a little red schoolhouse. Seriously, it’s ridiculous but I love it. I collected antique purses in high school and had a pretty sweet little collection and somehow I only have two left from back then and about four vintage purses total.

Obama Inauguration in Chicago

25 Jan
Washington, D.C. wasn’t the only city celebrating the inauguration of Barack Obama on Tuesday! There were jumbotrons set up right across the street from Dale’s office and folks gathered to cheer on Obama during his historic swearing in.

Dale, of course, ran out and took a few photos and I must say I’m very, very proud of him for taking these. He really captured the feeling of the crowd and the excitement of seeing the historic swearing-in of our nation’s first African American President!

Joe Biden’s big moment!

A very excited young man revels in the moment!

A woman beaming with pride!

A gentleman sharing the moment with his daughter.

I actually don’t even think these are the best photos–there are about 60 in a gallery you can see by clicking here! I really think Dale did a great job with these. These photos are very moving to me despite the fact that I’m still a little more Team Hilary!

New Nikon; More Photography!

22 Jan

It would seem this year the torch has been passed as Dale’s father passed his beloved Nikon FE camera gear to Dale. From what I have been told–endlessly–this is really cool stuff.

Dale spent a couple nights just cleaning and familiarizing himself with it. It’s quite the spread of goods!

Apparently photographers spend a lot of time taking pictures of rather uninspiring subjects in an effort to familiarize themselves with new equipment. This is great with digital cameras because the photos are free, but with film each frame costs money; I fear the ringing in my ear is the endless tone of the cash register.

Thankfully not every photo he has taken has been uninspired. In fact, he seems pleased with a few of them and genuinly likes a couple of them. Thankfully he is only making me post the six good photos and ignoring the thirty bad ones.

So here are some scans from the new camera.

American Gothic Statue now in downtown Chicago. I looooove this statue.

Dale’s friend and co-worker, Armi looking fierce and fab.

Random Bicycle.

NBC tower.

The Chicago River from Michigan Avenue!

More to come, I’m sure!

It's cold. Damn cold.

16 Jan

It’s a winter wonderland! And that explains why we are lacking in blog updates. It’s cold. Damn cold. Dale went out to the suburbs in Barrington and found some lovely winter scenes.

He drove around looking some striking images–he felt he didn’t find much.

He wanted to capture how cold it is and how snowy. Did I mention it’s cold? Because HOLY CRAP is it cold.

Tiny horses with big horses!

Pussy willows in the snow.

Even more pussy willows in the snow.

I didn’t go with him. Because it’s COLD, I tell you.

Expect pictures of indoor hobbies and activities for the next month or so.
